By use of these principles, work ceases to be mere drudgery, stress and exhaustion, and becomes a stable, productive activity filled with purpose and personal satisfaction. As an understanding of life is necessary to fully live it, so is an understanding of work necessary to successfully do it. This book contains drills and procedures you can use to immediately increase ability and competence at work.

History of the Book: In April of 1956, L. Ron Hubbard was in Dublin to begin an organization. He found that the area of administration, was where Scientology practitioners were having difficulties in getting their practices to prosper and he isolated the factors vital to success in the workaday world. The result of this research was this book, written while he sailed aboard the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth en route to England for the October 1956 London Congress. It was first published in December 1956. Today the technology it contains is used throughout the world in many businesses, both large and small.

“To obtain, hold and improve a job, one would have to know the exact, precision rules of life if one were to have a complete security. It would not be enough to know, fairly well, one’s job. That would not be a security, for as time went on we would see, as we have listed, too many chances entering into it.”—L. Ron Hubbard, from The Problems of Work
